Making infused olive oil is actually very easy when you know what you’re doing! Follow along with these steps and you’ll have infused olive oil that you can make for all types of food!
First, the supplies you need are:
- 2 – 3 cups of olive oil
- Half an ounce of decarbed cannabis (trim or bud)
- Mason jar
- Saucepan
- Cheesecloth
- Thermometer
Step 1:
First, you’re going to need to measure out 2 to 3 cups of olive oil and pour it into a mason jar with about half an ounce of decarbed cannabis trim or bud.
Step 2:
Now that your cannabis and oil are together, put your saucepan on your stove with water in it, and place the mason jar into the saucepan. Put your thermometer directly into the oil so you can keep track of the temperature. You want it to be at about 170º F. It’s going to take about 30 minutes to get to temperature, so keep checking on it and making sure it’s never getting above 180º F.
Step 3:
Once the oil reaches 170º F, adjust the stove to be sure you’re keeping the temperature steady, and start a timer for 3 hours. I check my oil every 10 to 15 minutes to make sure it’s not getting too hot, and also to stir it. Usually, I just use my thermometer to mix it up so I don’t dirty up another dish.
Step 4:
After the 3 hours, it’s time to strain your cannabis! Carefully take the mason jar out of the saucepan and dry it off. Take your cheesecloth and place it over the opening of the jar and screw the lid on, as shown in the pictures.
Don’t make the cheesecloth tight against the opening because it makes it harder for the oil to flow, so be sure to leave a little bit of room so it can sort of plop out.
Step 5:
Tip it over and pour it out! Pour the oil into another container that can handle the heat, and you’re left with infused olive oil! Be sure to use a towel or something else when you hold the jar to pour because the oil is going to be hot.
Infused olive oil is great for many things, such as baking, moisturizer or even lube!
